Former Mount Mansfield Union High SChool Students visit Compas
A group of former Mount Mansfield Union High School students (Jericho, VT), who traveled to Nicaragua with Compas board member, and MMU Social Studies teacher, Bryan Aubin while in high school, returned to Nicaragua in January, 2018. The group, most of whom now study at University of Vermont, was so inspired by their first trip that they decided to plan their own trip to Nicaragua while in college. The group helped their host families in La Paz prepare organic compost which was used for a coffee tree nursery project. They also painted a beautiful mural outside of the newly painted Women in Action center.
The group also took an overnight trip to Ometepe, a double volcanic island on Lake Nicaragua, visited the Pacific Ocean, and went on a boat tour of the Granada Islands.
More importantly, the group was able to see old friends and make new ones. As Maeve Poleman says, "what always stands out is that while people have so little, they are so eager to share what they do have with visitors. They do whatever they can to make people feel welcome and treat you like family the moment you enter into their homes."
