Plymouth State University Nicaragua club visits Costa Rica

In May, the Plymouth State University Nicaragua Club made its second trip to Costa Rica this year.  The first trip took place in January to make up for their canceled trip to Nicaragua last May.  The group worked in the San Jose neighborhood, La Carpio, an impoverished neighborhood outside of San Jose where the majority of the residents are Nicaraguans who have moved to Costa Rica in search of employment.  The group worked to install a brand new roof for the home of a family in La Carpio.  The family of 8, includes a 14 year old son who is battling cystic fibrosis, an 8 year old son with a heart problem and a 2 year old grandson with severe asthma.   The wooden roof structure and rusty metal roofing, which leaked with the slightest amount of rain were replaced with a metal roof structure and brand new metal roofing.  The health of the children depends on a dry and clean living area and thanks to the PSU Nicaragua Club who provided this new roof, that is just what the family will now have!
