The WIA Center includes an activity space,
kitchen, classroom, community store, library and computer room.
The activity space
and kitchen are used for weekly gourd art workshops and soy food
preparation. It is also utilized for weekly workshops, such as
reproductive health, domestic violence and natural medicine, and
activities such as cultural dancing.
The classroom
is utilized for before and after school programs for children. Children
receive extra help with homework and take part in art and music
activities. Women use the classroom for adult education courses.
The community store sells used clothing and
sneakers and school supplies at low cost to the community.
The library includes
children's books, dictionaries, text books, and novels. It also includes
sports equipment, games and puzzles. There is also a tool library so
that local masons, carpenters, and plumbers can lend tools in order to
work.
The computer room includes 4 computers with
windows programs and a printer. It utilized by sponsored children to
learn and practice their computer skills and also to do their homework
and class projects. Women in Action members who are taking computer
courses also use the space to practice. WIA are applying for a phone
line and internet connection for the computer room.
