Women in Action
Goals and Status | La Primavera Settlement | WIA Projects

Women in Action Center
Providing a space for learning, enrichment, and community activities

The WIA Center includes an activity space, kitchen, classroom, community store, library and computer room.

The activity space and kitchen are used for weekly gourd art workshops and soy food preparation. It is also utilized for weekly workshops, such as reproductive health, domestic violence and natural medicine, and activities such as cultural dancing.

The classroom is utilized for before and after school programs for children. Children receive extra help with homework and take part in art and music activities. Women use the classroom for adult education courses.

The community store sells used clothing and sneakers and school supplies at low cost to the community.

The library includes children's books, dictionaries, text books, and novels. It also includes sports equipment, games and puzzles. There is also a tool library so that local masons, carpenters, and plumbers can lend tools in order to work.

The computer room includes 4 computers with windows programs and a printer. It utilized by sponsored children to learn and practice their computer skills and also to do their homework and class projects. Women in Action members who are taking computer courses also use the space to practice. WIA are applying for a phone line and internet connection for the computer room.
