Women in Action
Goals and Status | La Primavera Settlement | WIA Projects

Soy Food Program:
WIA members preparing the week's soy food for the cooperative.
Soy Food Program:
The Women in Action's Soy Food Program helps to provide the cooperative's members and their families nutritious food using soy beans and a variety of vegetables.  Once a week the women purchase soy beans from the local market and on a rotating basis members prepare that weeks soy food.  The beans are cooked and strained, producing soy milk, and vegetables are added to the remaining soy meal in order to create a healthy and nutritious meal that is shared by WIA members and their families.

In 2008, WIA received a donation that allowed them to purchase a new industrial, gas stove.  This enabled the cooperative to replace an old, wood burning clay stove that was harmful to the women's health due to the smoke that it emitted.  The new stove is healthier for both the women and the environment, as it emits no smoke and burns no wood.
